ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work explores the perception of form, color and space within the quiet of the everyday. I look for poetry in moments of intimacy and detachment, and in the uncertainty between them.
BIO:
Lara Mari is a figurative painter based in Queens, NY. She studied ballet and literature at UC Berkeley and trained with Merce Cunningham in New York before retiring from professional dance and turning to classical drawing and oil painting. She received her core atelier training at the Art Students League of New York while continuing to deepen a studio practice rooted in perceptual observation through mentorship with painter Mina Mohtasham.
